PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

Only INDESIGN DOCUMENTs created on Macintosh or PC systems will be accepted.
(All type that is to be translated must be set in Indesign.) Therefore EPS files, Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop or PDF’s are not acceptable. Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop can be used for graphics and photos, NOT for text that needs to be translated.
Files can
be accepted on the following: - CDs
-
DVD's
- ALL ADS MUST BE SUPPLIED WITH A HARD COPY PROOF VIA MAIL OR OVERNIGHT CARRIER
TRANSLATIONS: Please READ these instructions:
Destinations Magazine is printed in English in addition to six foreign languages. The four-color process for the English language is output first (cyan, magenta, yellow and black). The magazine is then translated into the six foreign languages. The only text that is translated is that which prints 100% black excluding proper names, addresses, phone and fax numbers. Once the magazine is translated, new black plates are output for each language. The new black plates for each foreign language is then combined with the cyan, magenta and yellow of the English language. Because of this process it is very important that you follow the instructions below when designing your ad.
All blocks of text to be translated must be typeset in separate text boxes in InDesign. All text within these boxes including punctuation, bullets, dingbats must print 100% BLACK, and contain nothing which is breaking four color. Black text to be translated must be set to OVERPRINT. White lettering on a 100% black only background can be translated, but if built into the four color process, cannot be translated. Always make sure that white type is set to knockout-not overprint.
- Make sure ad dimensions are set up in your document to the exact dimensions that the ad should be.
- Make sure rules are no thinner than .5 point. Borders should be created using solid menu selections (using stroke from the Color Palette.)
- Make sure graphic files are saved as an EPS or TIFF.
- Make sure color separations are broken to CMYK, not RGB. Save as EPS or TIFF files.
- Photos or graphics at “web” resolutions (72 DPI) are not acceptable. Proper resolution is 300 DPI at finished size.
- Make sure a laser printout of your ad has been proofed and your document corrected for all typographical errors.
- Properly preflight your ad including all artwork and fonts.
AVOID THE FOLLOWING:
- Do not place fonts on the disk that are not being used in your document.
- Do not use the measurements palette to make your fonts bold or italic. Use the actual bold or italic version of the font instead, otherwise the font will not print correctly.
- Do not use RGB color or spot colors in your documents. All colors, artwork and photos must be set up to break CMYK four color process.
- Make sure photos for color separations are in CMYK mode, not RGB.
- Photos and or graphics at “web” resolution (72dpi) are not acceptable. Proper resolution is 300 dpi at finished size.
- Do not save your entire document as an EPS, Tiff or PDF file because translations can not be made. Be sure to leave enough white space in text boxes to allow for translation expansion. Otherwise tight copy results in unreadably small translated copy.
